If you didn’t already know, on May 18 we celebrated World Accessibility Awareness Day, which focuses on people with disabilities and special needs in the digital world. Google has decided to make some changes to Chrome that are extremely useful.

Chrome now corrects URLs.

Chrome becomes even smarter and more helpful. A blog post announced that the browser will find errors in addresses and suggest web addresses based on corrections.

This increases accessibility for dyslexic learners, language learners and anyone who makes typos, making it easier to access previously visited websites despite spelling mistakes.

– we read in the official announcement.

The new feature is expected to be available in the Google Chrome version (although macOS users report that they can’t see it yet). On the other hand, mobile devices are to hit “in the coming months”.

Image descriptions and Live Captions.

But that’s not all! Alternative alt text allows blind and partially sighted people to receive descriptions of images. Many images do not have adequate descriptions, making it difficult for these people to access visual information.

Now, the AI in Lookout can analyze images and provide a description. This feature is being tested by the blind and visually impaired community in collaboration with the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB).

Google has also extended its Live Caption feature, which offers real-time captions for audio, to Android tablets. Users can now write replies during conversations that are read aloud by the other person.

Support for French, German and Italian has also been added, and Live Caption has been extended to Pixel 4, Pixel 5 and other Android devices.
