iPhone 14 Crash Detection Improves with IOS 16.4

iPhone 14 crash detection is now getting three updates since its launch following complaints from emergency services.
With iOS 16.4 comes improvements to the crash detection feature for all iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models, we can read in Apple’s launch description of the software update.
The update is expected to roll out to the phones next week.
Emergency Services Complain About Crash Detection in Apple Watch
The description doesn’t provide specific details about the improvements, but the company has been working to make crash detection better after emergency services in the U.S. and Canada complained about the feature.
The complaints are that the feature has triggered an upsurge in false alarm calls from skiers and snowboarders during the winter. This is now the third time Apple has improved crash detection. First in November with iOS 16.1.2 and then in February with iOS 16.3.1.
The feature came last year to all iPhone 14 models, as well as the latest Apple Watch models. It is designed to detect serious car accidents and automatically call emergency services if the user does not respond within 20 seconds.
However, it has happened several times that a skier or a snowboarder has fallen and that it has been interpreted as a car accident. Reports of such incidents have come in from many popular ski resorts in the United States – Colorado, Utah, New York, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and more.
Can Updating Fix the Problem?
It is not yet known if this latest feature enhancement completely solves the problem.
Ski season is coming to an end in the US and Canada, so we’ll probably have to wait until next winter to find out if the new update puts an end to false calls to emergency services.
