Samsung Highlights 12.4-Inch Oled Screen that Folds Up

Samsung now presents a scrollable OLED screen that can be 5x larger – also an OLED screen with integrated heart rate monitor and fingerprint reader has been launched.
During the annual Display Week show in Los Angeles, Samsung showed off a potentially revolutionary roll-up 12.4-inch OLED panel.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen a scrollable concept, but Samsung’s invention is one step ahead of the competition, as it’s the biggest so far, and can be rolled up into a small roll.
Scrollable Screen that Can Be 5 Times Larger
The panel can go from 49mm to 254.4mm, that’s an impressive 5x scalability compared to the current rolling displays that can only go up to 3x their original size.
Samsung Display says they were able to achieve this by using an O-shaped axis that mimics a roller. The company calls it Rollable Flex and can be rolled up completely.
Screen Can Be Bent in All Directions
In addition to the Rollable Flex, Samsung presented a Flex In & Out OLED panel, which can be bent in both directions, unlike the currently used technology that allows the flexible OLED panels to fold in just one direction.
For example, Samsung’s very own Galaxy Flip4 and Fold4.
Oled Panel with Fingerprint Reader and Heart Rate Sensor
Last but not least, the Korean technology giant also presented the world’s first OLED panel with an integrated fingerprint reader and heart rate sensor.
Current implementations rely on a small sensor area, while Samsung’s solution allows the handset to be unlocked with the touch of a finger anywhere on the screen surface.
They succeeded by embedding the photosensitive organic photodiode (OPD) in the panel itself. The technology can also read blood pressure, heart rate and stress by monitoring blood vessel contraction and relaxation.
