Username as Extra Security in WhatsApp

WhatsApp users will soon have the opportunity to create a unique username where you don’t have to share your mobile number or real name with others.
WhatsApp is one of the most popular chat apps in the world with more than two billion users. However, there is a pretty big minus of the app, namely that you have to share your phone number with everyone you are going to chat with.
Even if you use the option with a QR code.
Unique Username for Better Privacy
For many, it can raise concerns about integrity and privacy, especially if one communicates with strangers or companies without revealing private information. Therefore, WhatsApp is developing a feature where you can create a unique username for your account.
That’s what WABetaInfo tells us.
With the new feature, you can create a unique username for your account and thus chat with people or businesses without sharing your personal phone number.
Usernames are already an option in other chat apps like Telegram, where you can hide your phone number and contact each other through the username. WhatsApp can follow much the same path and let its users choose their own usernames and connect with others without revealing their phone numbers.
The Feature Is Under Development
The feature is still under development and has yet to be officially announced by WhatsApp. In other words, we don’t know when it will go live.
It may become exclusive to certain accounts, such as businesses or verified users. Of course, the best thing would be if it could be open to everyone.
There may also be other restrictions such as how often you can change your username or how many characters the username can be.
